Melrose has withdrawn from this weekends race with a broken rib, leaving fastest time wide open. This has boosted the chances of several likely contenders. David "Venus Flytrap" Ayre and Chris "China Knees" Henderson stand to gain the most with their recent promotion to scratch. Also look out for Steve "Diesel Engine" Havard who will most likely be in the hunt and supporting Henderson.
The battle for fastest womens time looks to be tightly contested. The usual suspects will be in action with Kat Jones, Emma Htchings, CJ and Katri Laike expected to take the line. Sara MacDonald will also be looking to capitalise on her recent race winning from Lake Tekapo and challenge for the win.
