This weekend saw success in Timaru and Christchurch for many Otago riders. The one day tour of Timaru saw Alex McGregor, Shane Melrose, Stu Thomas and Joel Davies take stage wins in the A & B grades. Melrose and Davies also won their respective grades.
Sunday saw the 6th round of the Benchmark series run in the usual weather conditions of rain and cool temperatures. The race featured 9 sections of unsealed road which proved to be very decisive in shelling many of the weaker riders. Melrose was looking very strong throughout and was the unfortunate victim of an attack by Shane Archibald when he dropped back to the team van for feeding. Archibald got a minute and a half up the road leading into the finishing circuits. Melrose attacked the bunch to take second place. Alex Daniels finished in a strong 14th place in the bunch finish to help take the team prize. This proved to be the most successful race of the series yet, with the team looking for strong performances at the last two races.
